MAGIS
Magis, leading company in the field of design, was founded in 1976 by Eugenio Perazza and today is a big laboratory of projecting, of experimentation of semantic contents, with a lot of employees, which collects the competences of international designers, such as Jasper Morrison, Mari, Giovannoni, Arad, Fukasawa, Newson, Irvine, Young, Grcic, Van Onck, the Bouroullec brothers and Richard Sapper. The company provides a varied catalogue of its products, which are always divided according to their “technological families”, committed to different designers. The reinterpretation of daily objects, even of those which are considered less noble, is developed through the avant-guard application of plastic materials: Step (1984), is the folding chair designed by Andries & Hiroko van Onck, which has opened to design an unexplored world; Bombo (1996), the stool designed by Stefano Giovannoni, which clearly presents a type of product which had been ignored for a lot of time. Company without factory, Magis has chosen to decentralize the production to third companies in order to have an easier technological development of its products: from the “Air-Chair” (2000), designed by Jasper Morrison, where the absolute simplicity of the design is supported by the sophisticated injection molding, to the “Chair-One”, the skeleton-structure-chair made of die cast aluminum, born from the talent of Konstantin Grcic. The classical collections have been completed by the series Fuoritema, a creative bridge between different worlds, such as the pets’ world, which has been interpreted by Michael Young with the Magis Dog House (2001). Magis has a 30-years experience and until not much time ago it was one of the few companies which produced plastic objects. Today technologies and sophisticated techniques are used and Magis has become the first company in the world which uses the technique of air molding for the production of aesthetic goods. The company cooperates with designers with great international fame, but is also open to cooperation with young and unknown designers: Jean-Marie Massaud and Jerszy Seymour, for example, debuted on the international design scene thanks to the opportunities they got with Magis.
